Source: Legolas Greenleaf: Lord of the Elves Legolas is the son of Thranduil, Lord of the Elves of Mirkwood, the greatest of the forests in Middle Earth. He is a Gray-Elf,or Sindarin, descended from the Teleri line, the Third and greatest of the three Elf kindreds. He is also referred to as a Silvan Elf denoting "woodland".
Legolas was present at the Council of Elrond where the fate of The Ring of Power was determined. It was decided that it should be cast into the fires of Mount Doom, where it had been made by the evil Sauron. Legolas then became a member of The Fellowship as the representative of the Elves on the Quest.
Legolas is quick on his feet and has heightened senses. He knows when danger is coming. "Something draws near, I can feel it," was one of his few, but very wicked lines in the movie."
